Turkey dismantles international fraud network with 201 arrests

Turkish authorities, in coordination with the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), Interpol, and police cybercrime units, have dismantled a massive international investment fraud network. The operation, which included raids in Istanbul and Muğla, resulted in the detention of 201 suspects. Among those detained are 45 foreign nationals from 20 different countries, including 11 Israeli citizens and 11 Pakistani nationals.

The network allegedly operated through approximately 40 call centers and 25 companies, using fake forex and cryptocurrency trading platforms to deceive victims globally. The scheme involved promising high returns and displaying fabricated profits to encourage further deposits. When victims attempted to withdraw funds, they were often met with demands for additional payments under the guise of taxes or fees.

Investigators estimate the network defrauded victims of at least $266 million. Authorities have seized assets linked to the operation, including 80 vehicles and 12 properties, with the value of seized assets estimated at approximately 1.5 billion Turkish liras. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has stated it is monitoring the case to ensure the rights of its citizens are protected.
