Turkey arrests two women in marriage‑fraud scheme that stole 1 million TL in gold

Two women, a 46‑year‑old from Şanlıurfa and a 20‑year‑old accomplice, travelled to Nevşehir and posed as wedding helpers. They gained the trust of 38‑year‑old groom‑to‑be Y. A. and his mother, convincing the couple to purchase approximately 1 million Turkish lira worth of gold jewellery under the pretext of wedding preparations. The fraudsters also obtained large amounts of cash, clothing and the couple’s mobile phones before disappearing.

After the victim filed a police report, authorities traced the suspects to the Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri. A joint operation stopped their vehicle, recovered the gold, cash, jewellery and phones, and detained the two women. They were taken to Nevşehir, charged and later jailed following court proceedings.
