Kahramanmaraş school attack: 4 educators face investigation

Authorities have granted permission to launch an investigation into four educators following a fatal armed attack at Ayser Çalık Middle School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş. The attack, which occurred on April 15, resulted in the deaths of nine students and one teacher, Ayla Kara, and left 15 others injured.

The investigation targets the school principal C. K., assistant principal F. B., religious culture teacher A. T., and guidance counselor E. İ. under charges including abandonment, failure to report a crime, and abuse of duty. Reports from Ministry of National Education inspectors indicate that the principal and assistant principal observed the attack after hearing gunshots but subsequently fled the school building without organizing student evacuations or ensuring safety.

Additionally, teacher A. T. is under scrutiny for allegedly fleeing the classroom without taking action to protect students. The guidance counselor, E. İ., faces investigation for potentially violating notification obligations under the Child Protection Law. Reports suggest that despite receiving 29 guidance sessions regarding the perpetrator's violent tendencies and warnings from students two months prior to the incident, the counselor failed to take necessary official actions.
