Turkey advances major high-speed rail and highway infrastructure projects

Turkey is making significant progress on several large-scale transportation infrastructure projects aimed at reducing travel times and boosting economic efficiency.

The Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High-Speed Train Project is currently under construction. Spanning 312.5 kilometers, the line is designed for speeds of 200 kilometers per hour and will include 12 tunnels, 10 viaducts, 35 bridges, and 21 stations. Once completed, the travel time between Mersin and Gaziantep is expected to drop from over six hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes. The project aims to transport 3.1 million passengers and 37.1 million tons of freight annually, strengthening the logistics link between Mersin Port and Gaziantep industrial zones. The Mersin-Adana section has reached 84.72 percent physical completion, with a target finish date of 2027.

Simultaneously, the Antalya-Alanya Highway Project is underway to alleviate traffic on the D400 road. The 122-kilometer highway, consisting of 84 kilometers of main road and 38 kilometers of connection roads, is expected to reduce travel time between Antalya and Alanya from 2.5 hours to just 36 minutes. Construction has reached 35 percent overall progress, with tunnel excavation reaching 80 percent in certain sections. The project is projected to save 23.9 billion TL annually in time and fuel while reducing CO2 emissions by 47,000 tons per year. Completion is targeted for 2028.
