Turkey blocks Israel's Somaliland outreach with new African diplomatic alliance

Turkey is expanding its diplomatic, military and economic presence in the Horn of Africa to counter Israel’s growing ties with Somaliland. Ankara has rallied regional partners, including Egypt, Djibouti and Somalia, to form a coordinated front that rejects Israel’s attempts to recognize Somaliland as an independent state. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed that “Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity are a top priority for us under any circumstances,” condemning Israel’s moves as illegitimate.

The Turkish strategy combines increased deployment of defense industry assets, unmanned aerial systems and humanitarian aid, alongside negotiations on maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Analysts say the alliance aims to blunt Israel’s influence in the strategically vital maritime corridors that intersect the region’s trade routes.
