Turkey Receives Urgent Air‑Conditioner Orders from Europe Amid Heatwave
A prolonged heatwave across Europe, dubbed "Dragon Heat," has pushed temperatures above 40 °C and caused more than 1,300 deaths. The surge in demand has exhausted climate‑control inventories in several countries, notably France and Germany, prompting manufacturers there to contact Turkish producers for emergency supplies.
Turkish air‑conditioning firms such as Midea and Daikin report that orders from Europe are growing at double‑digit rates, with shipments potentially reaching 100,000 units. CEOs Aydın Kuzaltı and Olcay Avcı said that the region’s limited production capacity and new EU energy‑efficiency regulations are making Turkey a strategic supply hub.
Installation requests are also spiking: the United Kingdom saw a 340 % rise in new‑unit installs in June, while Spain recorded a 373 % increase over the same month last year. Within Turkey, new‑install demand rose 140 % in June and service activities such as refrigerant refilling jumped 243 %, led by cities like Gaziantep (328 % increase).
The situation highlights the transition of air‑conditioning from a luxury to a necessity for households, businesses, data‑centres and pharmaceutical plants across the continent, while underscoring supply‑chain pressures under EU climate‑policy mandates.
