Çorum Municipality signs protocol to expand 'Mother‑Friendly City' services

The mayor of Çorum, Dr. Halil İbrahim Aşgın, and the provincial health director, Prof. Dr. Sinan Zehir, signed a cooperation protocol to broaden the city’s “Mother‑Friendly City” programme. The agreement covers the period from families’ decision to have children through post‑natal care, offering home visits by municipal staff and midwives, education, counselling and breastfeeding support. New initiatives such as a Family Academy and a Mother Network will be reinforced by health‑directorate experts. Services will also include the creation of baby‑friendly rooms and the expansion of breastfeeding areas in line with the Ministry of Health’s “Baby‑Friendly” criteria. Mayor Aşgın said, “We are determined to continue work to obtain the Mother‑Friendly City title and make Çorum a model for the country and abroad.” The protocol aims to strengthen mother, infant and family‑focused services, improve quality of life and position Çorum as a leading example of family‑centred municipal health policy.
