Turkey Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan Secures Syria Deposit Pact and Holds Erzurum Economic Forum

On his first day in Damascus, the governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Fatih Karahan, met Syrian ambassador Nuh Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Şeybani and Syrian Central Bank governor Muhammed Safvet Raslan. The parties agreed to open reciprocal deposit accounts between the two central banks and signed technical‑and‑institutional cooperation agreements intended to ease trade and financial transactions and to provide technical support to the Syrian central bank. Karahan also visited historic sites and received information on the planned Kasiyun tourism project.

Later, Karahan travelled to Erzurum, Turkey, where he, Deputy Governor Gazi İshak Kara and Banking and Financial Institutions General Manager Fazilet Çavuşoğlu attended a meeting hosted by the Erzurum Trade and Industry Chamber. Turkish business representatives and academics from Atatürk University and Erzurum Technical University discussed monetary policy, inflation and the regional impact of the central bank’s decisions, conveying sector expectations directly to the central bank officials.
