Turkey coalition parties UBP, DP and YDP deadlock over Dec 6 election date
Government partners UBP, DP and YDP have not reached a consensus on whether local and parliamentary elections should be held together on 6 December, nor on the removal of the mixed‑voting system. DP leader Fikri Ataoğlu said a decision on both issues is expected from the party congress within about ten days, while YDP head Erhan Arıklı indicated his party will decide at a congress scheduled for around 15 August. Both parties reaffirm their long‑standing support for abolishing mixed voting, but remain divided on holding the two elections on the same day. The coalition noted that if an agreement is reached, parliament could be convened for an extraordinary session in late August to finalize the timetable.
No definitive outcome has been announced, and the timing of the elections remains uncertain.
