Turkey commemorates Mosques and Religious Officials Week
Various officials in Turkey have issued messages to commemorate Mosques and Religious Officials Week, observed annually from October 1 to 7. The commemorations emphasize the role of mosques as centers for social unity and spiritual life beyond their function as places of worship.
Mevlüt Tosun, President of the Isparta branch of Diyanet-Sen, described religious officials as the “spiritual architects of society,” noting their presence during significant life events such as births, marriages, and funerals. He also highlighted their service during natural disasters and pandemics, calling for the protection of their professional prestige and improved working conditions.
Mayor Vedat Soner Başer and Mil-Diyanet Provincial President Fatih Ağaç also shared tributes. Ağaç noted that this year’s theme, “Mosque and Social Life,” underscores the mosque's role as a vital hub for families, youth guidance, and community solidarity, serving as a meeting point for neighbors and those in need.
