İslam Yakut, international drug lord, apprehended in Istanbul

İslam Yakut, an international drug trafficking leader who had been a fugitive since 2017, has been apprehended in Istanbul. The operation was conducted in the Sarıyer district through coordinated efforts by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), the Istanbul Police Department, and the General Directorate of Narcotics.

Authorities state that Yakut managed his criminal organization using encrypted communication systems, specifically ANOM and SKY ECC, to issue orders while hiding in various locations both in Turkey and abroad. During the raid on his residence in Sarıyer, police seized a fake foreign identity document issued under the name D. G. (also identified as Denis Georgiev).

Investigations revealed that Yakut's syndicate was responsible for approximately 2 tons of narcotics seized across Turkey and Europe. The organization's operations included the shipment of heroin from Iran and Afghanistan to Europe, and the transport of synthetic drugs from Europe to Turkey. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek confirmed the arrest, emphasizing the state's commitment to combating drug barons and organized crime.
