Türkiye Ministry of Justice resolves major cold cases and dismantles crime rings
Türkiye's Ministry of Justice has announced significant breakthroughs in several high-profile criminal investigations through its newly established Unsolved Crimes Research Department. The department has successfully resolved 36 cold case files, involving 41 victims and 7 injured persons.
Key successes include the identification and arrest of a serial killer in Ankara responsible for three murders and six attempted murders dating back to 2015. Additionally, the 2019 double murder of Mustafa and Hüsna Ala in Osmaniye has been solved, resulting in the arrest of suspect Y. K.
Simultaneous law enforcement operations also targeted organized crime networks in major cities. In Istanbul, a theft ring targeting foreign tourists was dismantled; the group reportedly conducted approximately 10 crimes daily, generating 400,000 TL in criminal proceeds. In Izmir, operations targeted organized crime structures operating within the Forza and Yalı supporter groups, leading to the detention of 28 suspects across four provinces.
Other major enforcement actions included a crackdown on illegal betting networks across 45 provinces, resulting in 190 detentions and the detection of a transaction volume exceeding 84 billion TL. Furthermore, a major fraud ring using fake gaming and shopping sites was dismantled in Manisa, with 34 suspects arrested following the detection of 300 million TL in illicit transfers.
