Turkey construction permits decline in second quarter of 2026

Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) regarding the second quarter of 2026 shows a decline in new construction permits. Compared to the same period last year, the number of buildings receiving construction permits fell by 2.0%, the number of apartments decreased by 9.5%, and the total area decreased by 7.4%.

Residential buildings with two or more apartments accounted for the largest share of the total area, representing 71.1% of licensed construction at 37.6 million square meters. Industrial buildings and warehouses followed with 4.5 million square meters.

In contrast, occupancy permits saw an increase. The number of buildings receiving occupancy permits rose by 13.7%, the number of apartments increased by 10.7%, and the total area grew by 5.8% compared to the previous year. Residential buildings with two or more apartments held a 67.9% share of the total area for buildings receiving occupancy permits, totaling 19.4 million square meters.
