Venezuela receives multi‑nation humanitarian aid after June earthquakes
In the wake of the twin 7.2‑ and 7.5‑magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June, a wave of international assistance has arrived. Turkey dispatched rescue teams and a cargo containing seven tonnes of medicines, medical supplies and 275 tents, and its rescuers were honored with the "Hero of Venezuela" decoration. Mexico sent two naval vessels delivering 388 tonnes of food, water, hygiene kits, medicines and four water‑purification plants, accompanied by a 100‑person emergency response brigade. The United Arab Emirates landed a 70‑tonne shipment funded by a $10 million aid package, while Switzerland contributed one tonne of medical supplies. Venezuelan authorities reported 4,561 deaths, 16,740 injuries, 17,907 homes damaged and more than 128,000 families assisted, with thousands still in temporary camps. The aid deliveries are coordinated by Venezuela’s foreign ministry and civil protection agencies to support recovery and reconstruction in the hardest‑hit state of La Guaira.
