Turkey denies claims of ban on home electric vehicle charging

The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM), under the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, has denied social media claims that charging electric vehicles at home has been banned. The DMM clarified that there is no prohibition against charging electric vehicles in homes, apartments, or residential parking lots.

According to the statement, existing regulations aim to prevent unauthorized or technically non-compliant interventions in the electrical installations of multi-story buildings to ensure safety and prevent fires. For buildings with more than two independent units, charging units must be installed according to specific technical standards, with the knowledge of building management and necessary permits.

The DMM also addressed rumors regarding high fines. It stated that such penalties are not related to a new ban on home charging, but rather pertain to existing laws regarding illegal electricity use, such as connections made outside of meters or unauthorized electricity consumption.
