Turkey denies claims of importing European waste

The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has issued a formal denial regarding allegations that Europe is dumping waste in Turkey. The agency characterized the claims circulating in social media and certain press outlets as heavy manipulation and a malicious perception study.

According to the DMM, the entry of waste intended for disposal, hazardous substances, or non-recyclable garbage into Turkey is strictly prohibited by law. The agency clarified that only clean, source-separated waste intended for use as raw material in industry is permitted for import, provided it is processed at licensed facilities.

The DMM stated that any shipments not meeting required standards are denied entry and immediately returned to their country of origin. Furthermore, approved loads are monitored in real-time via tracking systems from the customs point to the processing facility. The agency suggested that these allegations were being raised specifically to undermine Turkey ahead of its hosting of the COP31 Climate Summit.
