Turkey denies military presence at Abu al-Zuhur airbase after Israeli strikes

Turkey has denied claims of having a military presence at the Abu al-Zuhur airbase in Syria's Idlib province following an Israeli airstrike on the facility. The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that no Turkish military mission or delegation was present at the site before or during the attack, which involved eight strikes on the airport runway.

Turkish officials emphasized their commitment to protecting Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Turkish Presidency announced that Ankara would not launch a military response to the strike, asserting that the country would not “fall into a trap” set by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Officials suggested that Netanyahu's actions are driven by domestic political pressures and upcoming elections.

In response to the strike, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel would not allow any entity to threaten its security. Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani clarified that there are no plans to establish a permanent Turkish military presence at the Abu al-Zuhur airbase, noting that the site is being rehabilitated for use by the Syrian Air Force.
