Turkey Dermatologists Warn Heat and Sun Increase Skin Problems

Dermatology specialist Dr. Seher Tutkun of Acıbadem Bursa Hospital explained that rising temperatures and humidity are driving a surge in skin issues. She noted increases in fungal and bacterial infections in moist skin folds, sun‑allergy reactions, acne, eczema and rosacea flare‑ups, and warned that repeated sunburns can set the stage for skin‑cancer development. Tutkun advised wearing hats and sunglasses, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, choosing breathable clothing, staying dry, taking short showers and drinking water to protect skin health.

Dr. İmge Durmaz of Manisa Şehir Hospital highlighted that skin cancer ranks among the world’s most common cancers and that early diagnosis dramatically improves survival rates. She said, “Asymmetry, irregular borders, colour changes, growth or non‑healing wounds should be evaluated carefully.” Durmaz stressed the importance of daily sunscreen use, limiting direct sun exposure, and seeking prompt dermatological assessment of any suspicious lesion, especially for those with a history of intense childhood sunburns.
