Turkey gasoline prices rise as Brent oil hits $83 amid Hormuz tension

Global oil markets saw Brent crude climb to about $83 per barrel on 7 August, driven by uncertainty over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and mixed signals from U.S. officials about a possible agreement with Iran. The price surge prompted Turkish authorities to announce a new gasoline increase of 1.43 TL per litre, of which 25 % will be offset by the ÖTV‑based “Eşel Mobil” system, leaving roughly a 1.06 TL rise at the pump. The hike pushes litre prices in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir to around 68‑69 TL, with İzmir approaching the 70 TL threshold. A previously announced 4.35 TL discount did not affect pump prices because the full amount was absorbed by the ÖTV mechanism. Analysts note Brent’s technical resistance near $83.5 and support around $82.3, while the Hormuz‑related supply concerns continue to influence domestic fuel costs.
