Turkey diesel prices exceed 100 TL per liter threshold
Diesel prices in Turkey have reached a historic milestone, crossing the 100 TL per liter threshold for the first time. This surge follows a series of consecutive price hikes, including a 6.59 TL increase on September 15 and an expected additional increase of approximately 4.62 TL on September 17.
Major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir are seeing diesel prices exceed 100 TL. In Istanbul, prices are expected to reach approximately 100.22 TL on the European side and 100.08 TL on the Anatolian side. In Ankara and Izmir, prices are projected to climb above 101 TL.
The price increases are attributed to volatility in global Brent crude oil markets and fluctuations in domestic exchange rates. The rising costs have sparked significant concern across various sectors, including agriculture, logistics, and small businesses. Farmers have expressed fears that high diesel costs will make tractor operations unsustainable, while transport workers warn of the inability to pass these costs on to consumers.
In response to the technical challenges of displaying three-digit prices, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has permitted fuel stations to use a single decimal place on price boards to ensure clarity for consumers.
