Diesel prices in Turkey are facing significant increases, with a recent hike of approximately 6.62 TL per liter pushing prices toward the 100 TL threshold in several provinces. In Samsun, prices have already exceeded 100 TL. This upward trend is driven by fluctuations in global Brent crude oil prices, exchange rate volatility, and a scheduled increase in Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV). The ÖTV on diesel is expected to rise progressively, reaching 6 TL in October, 9 TL in November, and 12 TL in December.

Beyond diesel, household energy costs are rising. The price of a 12kg kitchen gas cylinder increased to 1,570 TL in September, marking a 33.6% increase since the beginning of the year. Industry experts warn that if current cost pressures continue, kitchen gas prices could approach 2,000 TL.

Economic and infrastructure concerns have also emerged. Sector representatives estimate that upgrading approximately 80,000 fuel pumps across 14,000 stations to display three-digit prices would cost roughly 212 million dollars. The rising fuel costs are expected to create a chain reaction, increasing transportation and production costs, which will ultimately impact the prices of food and basic consumer goods in markets.
