Turkey diesel prices to rise following tax reinstatement
Diesel fuel prices in Turkey are set to increase starting September 1, 2026, due to the reinstatement of the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) that was temporarily zeroed out in August. The tax increase of 3 TL per liter, combined with a 20% Value Added Tax (KDV), is expected to raise pump prices by approximately 3.60 TL per liter.
According to a presidential decree, this tax hike will follow a gradual schedule through the end of the year. The ÖTV per liter is projected to rise to 6 TL in October, 9 TL in November, and 12 TL in December. By January 1, 2027, the tax is expected to reach 13.9006 TL per liter.
Following the increase, diesel prices in major cities are estimated to reach approximately 81.08 TL in Istanbul, 82.20 TL in Ankara, and 82.47 TL in Izmir. While diesel prices are rising, no immediate changes are expected for gasoline or LPG prices at this time.
