Turkey dietitian warns of summer diarrhoea and dehydration risks

Dietitian Gizem Güneş cautioned that the combination of rising summer temperatures, increased use of beaches and pools, and improper food storage is leading to a noticeable rise in diarrhoea and vomiting cases in Turkey. She emphasized that maintaining adequate fluid intake is crucial, recommending plenty of water and adding a small amount of rock salt to help restore mineral balance.

Güneş advised continuing light meals rather than stopping eating altogether, suggesting ayran, soups, boiled rice and boiled potatoes as easy-to-digest options. She warned that persistent high fever, prolonged nausea, marked weakness or dry mouth should prompt a visit to a health centre, where antibiotics may be prescribed if an infection is identified.
