Turkey domestic patent applications rise 31 percent in first half of 2026

Domestic patent applications in Turkey increased by 31 percent during the first six months of 2026, rising from 3,538 to 4,641, according to data from TÜRKPATENT. This growth is attributed to efforts under the National Technology Initiative and the strengthening of the country's industrial property ecosystem.

Utility model applications also saw a 23 percent increase, reaching 2,201 compared to 1,638 in the same period last year. During this timeframe, TÜRKPATENT received 76,215 trademark applications, 16,567 domestic design applications, and 173 geographical indication applications. Total domestic industrial property rights applications reached 99,617, with 64,489 rights registered.

In terms of geographical indications, numerous regional products received certification between January and June 2026. Notable registrations include Trabzon fanilası, Turkish coffee (as a Traditional Product Name), and various regional foods such as Hatay yogurt kebap, Çorum su böreği, and Erzincan honey. The Black Sea region led the country with 369 registered products.
