Turkey electric vehicle numbers exceed 450,000

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of electric vehicles in Turkey has exceeded 450,000 as of the first half of 2026. He noted that the country has reached approximately 47,000 charging sockets, claiming that Turkey is now a leader in Europe regarding the number of vehicles per charging socket.

Speaking at the Zero Waste, Environment, and Climate Change Workshop in Samsun, Uraloğlu emphasized Turkey's commitment to its 2053 net-zero emission goal. He highlighted that the transportation sector accounts for 17.6% of emissions in Turkey. To combat this, the ministry is implementing a Net Zero Emission Roadmap for transportation and expanding fiber optic infrastructure to 20,000 kilometers to support smart transportation systems.

Additionally, the Minister discussed the integration of zero-waste principles into transport projects, including the use of recycled materials in construction and maintenance, and the implementation of zero-waste practices at ports, airports, and stations.
