Türkiye electric vehicle fleet grows to 472,157 units

The electric vehicle (EV) market in Türkiye is experiencing rapid growth. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of registered electric cars reached 472,157 by the end of August 2026, representing a 53.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Hybrid vehicle registrations also rose, reaching 896,270. This surge is attributed to an expanding charging infrastructure, changing consumer preferences, and the growing market share of the domestic manufacturer Togg.

Data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) shows that in August 2026, charging stations across the country consumed a total of 97,469 MWh of electricity. During this period, over 3.5 million charging operations were completed, with an average consumption of 27.63 kWh per charge. The charging infrastructure has expanded to 48,649 total points, consisting of 21,116 DC fast chargers and 27,533 AC slow chargers.

Usage patterns indicate peak electricity consumption occurs in the late afternoon, specifically between 16:00 and 19:00. Weekend usage also remains high, with Saturday and Sunday recording higher daily consumption levels than most weekdays. Notably, 62.2 percent of the total electricity consumed at charging stations was sourced from renewable energy via YEK-G certified green charging stations.
