Turkey fuel prices rise as Eşel Mobil system ends
Fuel prices in Turkey have undergone significant changes following the termination of the ‘Eşel Mobil’ system on October 1, 2026. This system, originally implemented to mitigate the impact of global oil market volatility caused by conflicts in the Middle East, provided state support by reducing Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) to offset rising costs.
With the system's end, tax rates are being restored. For LPG, the ÖTV per kilogram increased from 9.2190 TL to 11.3830 TL, leading to two price hikes within two days that pushed litre prices above 40 TL. In contrast, the government has introduced a gradual transition for gasoline (benzin) to prevent sudden price shocks. Instead of a single large increase, the ÖTV hike for gasoline will be spread across October, November, and December.
Diesel (motorin) prices are also subject to a scheduled gradual increase. Economists warn that if international oil prices do not decline, diesel prices could potentially exceed 100 TL per litre in the near future due to these ongoing tax adjustments.
