Turkey Energy Minister Bayraktar Calls for Clean‑Energy Leadership at London COP31 Dialogue

Turkey’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar attended the COP31‑IEA High‑Level Energy Transformation Dialogue in London, where he warned that successive crises – the COVID‑19 pandemic, supply‑chain disruptions, trade wars, natural disasters and conflicts in Ukraine and Iran – have exposed the fragility of the energy sector. He stressed that energy security must accompany the energy transition and announced Turkey’s target to raise electricity’s share of global energy consumption to 35% by 2035, triple renewable‑energy capacity, build a 40‑GW HVDC transmission corridor and invest US$20 billion in energy‑efficiency projects by 2030.

At the same event, Zero Waste Foundation President Samed Ağırbaş led a round‑table at Buckingham Palace on the Climate Action Agenda. He urged stronger multi‑stakeholder cooperation to turn global climate goals into concrete actions before COP31 in Antalya, highlighted the links between climate action, food security, energy access and poverty, and advocated for a circular‑economy approach that can create jobs and improve living standards.
