Turkey energy report: Natural gas imports fall as electricity production rises

According to sector reports from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), Turkey experienced shifts in its energy landscape during June. Natural gas imports decreased by 6.19% year-on-year to approximately 3.06 billion cubic meters. Pipeline imports were led by Azerbaijan with 1.012 billion cubic meters, followed by Iran with 883 million cubic meters and Russia with 882 million cubic meters. All liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports during this period were sourced from Algeria.

Total natural gas consumption rose by 4.59% to approximately 2.83 billion cubic meters, with residential use reaching 710 million cubic meters. Meanwhile, licensed electricity production increased by 6.51% compared to the previous year, totaling 26.26 million megawatt-hours. Hydroelectric power accounted for the largest share of licensed electricity production at 40.12%, followed by wind at 12.95% and imported coal at 12.55%.

Electricity consumption also grew by 7.09% to 24.1 million megawatt-hours, with the industrial sector representing 40.17% of total usage. Turkey's licensed installed electricity capacity increased by 3.15% to 100,874 megawatts.
