Türkiye renewable energy reaches 58% of electricity mix

Türkiye has reached significant milestones in its energy transition, with renewable energy sources accounting for 58% of total electricity generation in July. This marks a substantial increase from 43% during the same period last year. Solar power production hit a record high of 5.4 TWh, contributing 15.6% to the total mix, while hydroelectric output rose 60% year-on-year to 9 TWh.

In contrast, the share of natural gas in electricity generation fell to 10%, the lowest July level in 26 years. Wind power contributed 12% to the total generation.

The electric vehicle (EV) sector is also seeing rapid growth. As of July 2026, the total number of electric vehicles in Türkiye reached 464,873. The charging infrastructure has expanded significantly, with the total number of charging points reaching 46,665, a fourfold increase over approximately 2.5 years. Of these, 20,461 are DC fast chargers, which account for nearly 85% of monthly electricity consumption at charging stations. Approximately 65% of charging operations were conducted at stations using renewable energy sources.
