Turkey evaluates third-country options for PKK leaders amid security operations
Security operations are underway to dismantle PKK logistics centers in northern Iraq. Following the evacuation of the Metina region, efforts have shifted to the Gara and Hakurk areas. The objective is to progressively destroy caves and shelters along the route leading to Kandil, with a target completion date by January.
During these operations, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) is conducting criminological recording of seized weapons, ammunition, explosives, drones, and satellite radios before their destruction. This process is being carried out in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government to ensure caves, including those containing medical facilities, are rendered unusable.
As part of a broader security strategy, a proposal is being considered regarding the fate of PKK leaders. Since the Iraqi administration has expressed that it does not want organization leaders on its territory, and they are excluded from potential legal amnesty provisions, Turkey is evaluating the option of sending these individuals to third countries under Turkish supervision.
Additionally, efforts to clear Sinjar of terrorist presence are continuing under Iraqi government supervision. Security sources indicate that if the region is cleared, Turkey may evacuate its Base in Bashika, with the first group of individuals potentially arriving from Sinjar.
