Turkey expands animal health initiatives in Balıkesir and Bitlis

In Balıkesir’s Burhaniye district, veterinary teams continued the 2026 Small Ruminant Vaccination and Tagging Programme, reaching remote high‑altitude pastures to vaccinate sheep and goats against peste des petits ruminants, brucellosis and foot‑and‑mouth disease and to tag newborn animals.

In Bitlis, a new animal shelter and natural‑life area opened, housing roughly 2,000 stray dogs. Officials said about 800 dogs have been neutered and all received parasite treatment and rabies vaccinations, aiming to reduce stray‑dog related risks to the public.
