Turkey expands transportation infrastructure with major bridge and rail growth

Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has detailed significant expansions in the nation's transportation networks over the last 24 years.

In the bridge sector, the number of bridges has increased from 5,967 to 10,239, with total length reaching 830 kilometers. Notable engineering feats include the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, which holds the record for the world's widest main span, and the Kömürhan Bridge, ranked fourth in global literature due to its unique design.

Civil aviation has seen a massive capacity surge, with annual passenger capacity rising from 55 million to over 397.4 million. The number of airports has grown from 26 to 58, and Turkey now ranks 7th globally in passenger traffic.

Regarding rail infrastructure, the total network has expanded to 13,919 kilometers, including 2,251 kilometers of new high-speed rail lines. The government aims to increase the number of provinces directly connected by high-speed rail from 11 to 27 by 2028.
