Turkey expands cancer care through holistic support and new radiotherapy services
New developments in cancer treatment and accessibility are being reported in Turkey. At Ankara Etlik City Hospital, the Integrated and Preventive Cancer Center is emphasizing a holistic approach. Associate Professor Tülay Eren stated that psychosocial support, including family therapy and lifestyle interventions like yoga and meditation, can significantly improve treatment success and reduce recurrence rates, particularly in breast cancer patients. The center also utilizes digital tools, such as online sleep workshops, to improve patient quality of life.
In Adıyaman, the Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital Oncology Diagnosis and Treatment Center has launched radiotherapy services. This new radiation oncology unit allows local patients to receive essential beam therapy without the need to travel to other provinces. Chief Physician Mehmet Tepe noted that providing these services locally helps patients remain close to their families during long and sensitive treatment processes.
