Turkey expands cinema funding and celebrates record festival attendance
Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism is expanding financial support for the domestic film industry. Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that 12.325 million lira will be allocated to 35 new projects covering short films, animation, scriptwriting, and project development. This funding represents a nearly 49 percent increase in resources for these specific areas compared to the previous year.
In a separate major industry event, the GNÇ Turkey Cinema Festival, organized by the Cinema Investors Association (SİSAY) with ministry support, achieved record attendance. Held across 1,500 theaters in 75 cities, the festival drew 777,000 viewers over two days. The initiative, which utilized a 90 lira ticket price, aimed to revitalize cinema attendance and boost local commercial activity in shopping centers and retail sectors.
