Turkey's AFAD mobilizes 13,000 responders and accredits Manişa fire rescue team

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that more than 13,300 personnel and over 5,600 vehicles have been deployed nationwide to tackle landslides, floods, and related emergencies. The agency cited incidents in provinces such as Tokat, Trabzon, Hatay, and many others, noting 110 landslide events that affected dozens of homes and a series of floods and water‑borne disasters across the country. AFAD coordinated with police, gendarmerie, health services, fire brigades and local authorities to provide rescue, relief and clean‑up operations.

In Manisa, the municipal fire department completed a rigorous search‑and‑rescue accreditation exercise under AFAD supervision. A team of 60 specialists and 12 fire‑engine vehicles carried out a simulated earthquake scenario in Sındırgı, establishing field camps, conducting debris‑clearing missions and performing high‑rise medical evacuations. The successful drill earned Manisa a place among Turkey’s limited number of internationally accredited rescue units, highlighting the city’s enhanced capacity for disaster response.
