Turkey expands light rail networks in Van and Bursa
The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure approved a light rail system for Van, linking the Edremit coast to Van 100th Year University. Van Organize Sanayi Bölgesi (OSB) chairman Memet Aslan said the project will boost the city’s industry, tourism and logistics, improve commuter access to the university and city centre, and reduce traffic congestion for workers and visitors.
In Bursa, the metropolitan municipality is adding 20 new light‑rail vehicles and has opened a public poll for residents to choose the exterior colour of the cars. The initiative, coordinated by the Light Rail Systems Department, aims to involve citizens directly in the design of the expanding fleet.
Both projects are presented as strategic investments to modernise urban transport, enhance economic activity and improve the quality of life in their respective regions.
