Turkey expands military presence in Syria and the Aegean

Turkey is increasing its military presence and strategic influence in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East. In the Aegean, Turkish drones and fighter jets have recently conducted airspace violations and breaches of the Athens FIR, leading to aerial interceptions with Greek military aircraft.

Simultaneously, reports indicate that Turkey is deploying advanced air defense systems, including Russian-made S-400s and domestic Hisar-O+ systems, along with offensive drones to strategic Syrian airbases such as T-4 and Palmyra. This deployment is intended to provide long-range radar coverage and protection for infrastructure, which has raised significant concerns in Israel. The presence of these systems could limit the Israeli Air Force's freedom of movement in Syrian airspace, where it frequently conducts strikes against pro-Iranian targets.

In the maritime domain, tensions persist regarding a proposed Turkish maritime law that critics argue contradicts international law and threatens regional stability. While Turkey has strengthened defense ties with nations like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, analysts suggest that Greece's military capabilities and international alliances serve as a deterrent to potential conflict.
