Turkey expands Pregnant Mother Education Programs in İzmir and Aydın
In İzmir, Eşrefpaşa Hospital has opened a "Gebe Okulu" (Pregnant School) that provides expectant mothers with multidisciplinary training. Specialists including psychologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, midwives and physicians deliver sessions on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, dental health, nutrition, Pilates, yoga and mental‑wellness, aiming to reduce birth‑related anxiety. Registration for the program has resumed.
In the Nazilli district of Aydın, the Cumhuriyet Healthy Life Center also runs a "Gebe Okulu" program. After completing a three‑week curriculum, participants received certificates. The curriculum covered fetal development, regular health checks, immunisations, nutrition, personal care, oral health, sleep habits, common pregnancy discomforts, stages of labour, delivery methods, benefits of normal birth, postpartum recovery, newborn care and family‑planning options. Practical physiotherapy sessions taught breathing techniques, body awareness and safe movements to prepare for delivery. Local health officials emphasized that the education series will continue to promote healthy and informed motherhood.
