Turkey accelerates renewable energy and industrial power transition

Turkey is undergoing a significant energy transition characterized by large-scale investments in renewable infrastructure and industrial efficiency. Aydem Enerji has announced plans to invest approximately $700 million in renewable energy over the next three years to reach a 3,000 MW installed capacity. In Kahramanmaraş, a 200 million TL solar power plant supported by the Kuwait Fund has begun production, capable of meeting the monthly electricity needs of roughly 5,000 households.

Industrial sectors are also driving change. The Osmaniye Organized Industrial Zone has increased its solar capacity to 210 MW over nine years, now covering 18% of its electricity consumption. Meanwhile, Girişim Elektrik has secured a contract worth approximately 26.8 million euros for a solar and transmission project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Strategic discussions are also focusing on long-term efficiency, such as the potential to repurpose industrial waste heat to heat 3.8 million homes, which could provide an annual economic contribution of $735 million. Additionally, Turkey is developing a roadmap for zero-emission transportation, including plans for electric heavy commercial vehicles and expanded charging networks by 2027.
