TARSİM expands agricultural insurance coverage for 2027

Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced significant expansions to the state-supported Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) effective in 2027. Minister İbrahim Yumaklı stated the updates aim to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis and natural disasters on agricultural production.

A major change involves frost protection coverage, which will expand from 9 to 25 products. New additions include walnut, almond, fig, kiwi, banana, chestnut, and pomegranate, among others. Additionally, tritikale has been added to the Income Protection Insurance alongside wheat, barley, and rye.

In the livestock sector, calves can now be insured from their first day of birth, and requirements for mandatory slaughter due to infertility have been eased. Beekeeping insurance will now cover landslide damage caused by snow, and hive compensation rates have increased. Greenhouse producers will also see higher repair support and potential premium discounts for modernization.

Furthermore, the Parcel-Based Yield Insurance, which protects against yield losses due to drought, is expanding its pilot program from Tekirdağ to Şanlıurfa and Kayseri, with plans for nationwide implementation. The ministry also noted that losses from wild boars eating sugar beet seedlings and flood damage from dam releases will be covered.
