Turkey expects 21 million tons of sugar beet production this year

Ramazan Erkoyuncu, President of the Beet Growers Cooperatives Union (PANKOBİRLİK), announced that Turkey is projected to produce approximately 21 million tons of sugar beets this year, yielding about 2.8 million tons of sugar.

Despite annual sugar consumption in Turkey being around 3 million tons, existing stocks carried over from previous seasons are expected to create a supply surplus. Erkoyuncu noted that sugar yields and polar values, which indicate sugar content, remain high and consistent with last year's strong performance.

To support competitiveness and exports, sugar producers have committed to covering the costs previously associated with duty-free imports under the Inward Processing Regime. This commitment aims to ensure no sugar is imported from abroad, potentially allowing Turkey to export more sugar at international prices rather than domestic market prices.
