Turkey records several shallow magnitude‑4 quakes in July 2026

On July 15‑16 2026 Turkey’s disaster agency AFAD reported a series of shallow earthquakes across the country. In Elazığ’s Sivrice district a magnitude 4.0 tremor struck at a depth of 11.5 km on July 16, shaking nearby provinces but causing no injuries or damage. In Kahramanmaraş’s Pazarcık district a magnitude 4.2 quake occurred at 8.5 km depth, also without casualties; the provincial governor said, “Değerli hemşehrilerim… şu an itibarıyla olumsuz bir durum bulunmamaktadır.” The shaking was felt in Malatya, Adıyaman and other surrounding areas. A nationwide list released by AFAD and the Kandilli Observatory recorded dozens of additional quakes on July 15, ranging from magnitude 3.6 to 5.0 in locations such as Muğla, Van, Manisa and Malatya. Authorities carried out field inspections and reassured the public that no significant harm was reported.
