Turkey experiences abundant bonito season with falling prices
A significant increase in bonito (palamut) stocks has led to a sharp decline in market prices across Turkey. Following the end of the fishing ban, the current season is being described by industry experts as one of the most abundant in the last 25 years.
In various regions, prices have dropped significantly. In some areas, bonito is being sold for 100 TL per kilogram, while in Rize, medium-sized fish are priced at 50 TL per unit. This abundance has changed consumer behavior, with many shoppers purchasing larger quantities to stock their freezers.
Fishermen and industry representatives note that the high supply, particularly in the Black Sea region, is driving prices down. Experts are encouraging citizens to increase their fish consumption, suggesting that the current availability makes it an ideal time for healthy eating.
