Turkey faces calls for tax justice and economic relief

Discussions in Turkey have emerged regarding the increasing economic burden on citizens and the necessity of tax justice. Akif Güzel noted that tradespeople, retirees, workers, and low-income individuals are struggling against rising costs, calling for permanent steps to provide economic relief.

Güzel emphasized that tax and administrative sanctions should aim to maintain public order without causing victimization, suggesting that predictable and fair approaches are essential to strengthen trust in public administration. He argued that clear legislation would reduce uncertainty for both citizens and implementing institutions.

In the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, İYİ Party Edirne Deputy Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akalın criticized the repeated implementation of ‘wealth peace’ regulations. Akalın pointed out that while workers, tradespeople, and farmers are taxed on their earnings, there is a lack of transparency regarding large wealth increases.

Akalın questioned the effectiveness of the eight wealth peace regulations introduced since 2008, asking how much wealth was actually declared and brought into the country. He warned that if tax justice is undermined, trust in the state will also be shaken.
