Turkey faces controversy over municipal land sale and apartment fraud scheme
The Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality announced it will auction ten villa parcels in the Güneşli neighbourhood of Kocasinan for a total of 24 million Turkish lira, with individual plots priced between 2.3 million and 2.5 million lira. The sale, scheduled for 16 June, follows a legal framework that treats the parcels as "villa parcels" suitable for low‑density housing.
In Istanbul, prosecutors say the developer of the Aksupark housing project sold the same apartments to multiple buyers, defrauding 13 victims of roughly 30 million lira. Buyers paid down payments, bank transfers and promissory notes, only to discover the deeds were transferred to other parties or duplicated. The case's primary suspect, Ali Asker Aksu, claims the illegal sales were carried out by employees without his knowledge and is awaiting trial.
