Turkey faces rising calls for drug testing in public and film sectors

In Turkey, discussions regarding substance abuse are emerging in both the public sector and the entertainment industry. HÜDA PAR has called for mandatory drug testing for individuals seeking employment in public institutions, citing the need to protect social peace, families, and the future of youth. The party highlighted a recent voluntary drug screening initiative by the Keçiören Municipality in Ankara as a model for broader public sector responsibility.

Simultaneously, the Turkish film and television industry is facing challenges due to drug use among performers. Directors report that substance abuse has become a significant issue on sets, sometimes leading to law enforcement interventions. To mitigate financial risks, producers have begun inserting clauses into actor contracts that require performers to compensate productions for damages caused by drug-related incidents or detentions. Some industry professionals have even discussed the possibility of requiring DNA testing for actors.
