Turkey faces tension over 'yellow bag' provocations
Controversy is growing in Turkey regarding the use of 'yellow bags' as a provocative symbol. The issue gained prominence following a football match between Kocaelispor and Amedspor, where fans used the bags in a manner criticized as hate speech and incitement. Following the match, several individuals were detained and placed under house arrest.
The debate has expanded to media commentary and physical demonstrations. On Sözcü TV, presenter Serap Belovacıklı addressed the incident, noting that while the use of the bags is wrong, she also raised allegations regarding Amedspor fans' behavior during the national anthem. This sparked backlash on social media, with critics arguing the media coverage was one-sided.
Beyond the stadium, similar incidents have been reported in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul. Allegations have surfaced that individuals hung yellow bags from a balcony overlooking a construction site, which was interpreted by some as a provocation directed at Kurdish workers. These actions have raised concerns regarding social tension and public order.
