Russia warns US and Turkey over Ukraine arms deal
Ukraine is set to acquire a significant package of US-manufactured weaponry through Turkey, including 70 M39 ATACMS ballistic missiles, 12 M270 multiple rocket launchers, and thousands of artillery rockets and shells. The deal, valued at $283 million, consists of older-model equipment and has received US government support.
Russia has reacted strongly to the arrangement, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stating the delivery could negatively impact relations between Russia, the US, and Turkey. Moscow has requested formal explanations from both Washington and Ankara regarding the transfers, which are reportedly being facilitated via private military companies using Turkish territory.
In addition to the arms deal, Turkey has called for a moratorium on military attacks in the Black Sea region by both Russia and Ukraine. Reports also indicate a significant reduction in Russian oil imports through Black Sea ports by nearly one million tons.
