Turkey fig exports expected to reach record highs
Turkey's fig industry in the Aydın region is preparing for a record-breaking export season. Due to favorable weather conditions and abundant rainfall, the fig harvest has seen a significant increase. Nuri Arslan, President of the Nazilli Chamber of Commerce, stated that the harvest has increased by 50 percent, and when accounting for improved product quality, the total increase is estimated between 70 and 80 percent.
Export activities, which typically begin in mid-October, have been moved forward to September 28 this year. The industry expects to surpass the previous export record of 370 million dollars. For 2026, harvest forecasts are set at approximately 388,000 tons of fresh figs and 94,000 tons of dried figs.
While the high yield is expected to provide more affordable options for domestic consumers, current sales prices are reported to be 20 to 30 percent lower than the previous year.
